WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE?
SPEAKING + WRITING ACTIVITY
PAIR WORK
BEGINNER
What’s Your Favourite? is a simple and fun quiz that students complete in pairs to find out more about each other. How well do you know the person sitting next to you? And how much do you actually have in common?
This activity encourages students to ask and answer questions about their favourite things while adding a fun competitive element: the more answers you have in common, the higher your score!
LESSON PLAN
procedure:
Divide the class into pairs - preferably students who do not know each other very well - and give each pair a copy of the worksheet available in the MATERIAL section below. ⤵️
You can download and print the PDF worksheet.
Give students a few minutes to complete the ME column individually.
Now it is time to work with their partner!
Students take turns asking each other questions beginning with:
What’s your favourite...?. They listen to their partner’s answers, write them down and keep track of their score.
Students get 1 point for matching answers to the first questions and 5 points for the more open-ended questions.
Once they have finished, ask each pair to calculate their final score.
For a whole-class round-up, find out which pair achieved the highest score. Who is the most compatible pair in the class?
As a follow-up activity, you could ask students to write a short text entitled: My Favourite Things. Alternatively, create a class display using students’ photos and some interesting facts about their favourite things.
