INTERMEDIATE
Do You Know Me? is a great activity for breaking the ice during the first days of school while giving students the opportunity to practise their speaking skills.
It can be used as a pair or group activity and develops in two stages: first, students talk and get to know each other better; then, they use the information they have discovered for a short writing task.
It is also a useful way to practise speaking for language examinations, encouraging students to give longer and more detailed answers rather than simply replying with a few words.
LESSON PLAN
procedure:
Divide the class into pairs and give each student a set of questions. You can find the questions in the MATERIAL section below. ⤵️
The worksheet is available as a PDF file that you can download and print.
Students take turns choosing a question and asking their partner.
Encourage the speaker to talk for at least one minute. While listening, the other student should take a few notes about their partner's answers. These notes will be useful for the follow-up activity.
Once everyone has finished, spend a few minutes sharing feedback with the class: Did anyone discover something interesting or surprising about their partner?
As a follow-up activity, ask students to write a short text entitled: Five Things You Didn't Know About Me. They can use the notes they took during the speaking activity to introduce their partner and share some interesting things they have discovered.
