SPEAKING + WRITING ACTIVITY
PAIR WORK
BEGINNER
I Think I Know You is a Getting to Know You activity with a little twist.
Unlike many traditional ice-breakers, this activity not only helps students practise giving information about themselves, but also encourages them to make guesses and speculate about another person.
How much do we already know - or think we know - about the person sitting next to us?
LESSON PLAN
procedure:
Divide the class into pairs - preferably students who do not know each other very well - and give each pair a copy of the worksheet available in the MATERIAL section below. ⤵️
You can download and print the PDF worksheet.
Give students a few minutes to complete the first stage individually. For each statement about their partner, they should write YES or NO in the first column, depending on whether they think the statement is true or false.
Now it is time to find out if their guesses were correct!
Students take turns asking their partner questions and recording their answers. Were their predictions right?
For a whole-class round-up, ask each student to share one interesting thing they discovered about their partner.
As a follow-up activity, you could ask students to write a short text entitled: I Know My Partner Well Now. Alternatively, create a class display using students' photos and some of the most interesting things they discovered about one another.
