FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL

GETTING TO KNOW YOU activities

IDENTITY CARDS
WRITING ACTIVITY
INDIVIDUAL WORK
ELEMENTARY

During the first days of school, it is important to help students - especially those who are approaching a foreign language for the first time - feel confident and realise that they are already able to take their first steps. After all, they already know some English words! (How often do we use foreign words in our own language?)

It is also important to help students understand that they are part of a team and that working together is essential to achieving a common goal.

Identity Cards is a very simple mini-writing activity in which students practise giving personal information and, through a class card display, become an active part of their new group.

LESSON PLAN
procedure:

  1. Give each student a copy of the identity card template available in the MATERIAL section. ⤵️

  2. Explain that they should complete all the fields. They can either stick a passport-size photo onto their card or draw a self-portrait.

  3. Once everyone has finished, create a gallery wall with all the identity cards. The cards can then be used for follow-up activities such as Find someone who...? or Getting to know each other.
